The Assam Rifles on Sunday flagged off a National Integration Tour for youth from Jiribam district under its Civic Action Programme, aimed at promoting national unity, cultural understanding and people-to-people contact.
The tour was formally flagged off from Kadamtala by Colonel Prasant Singh Chundawat, Commandant of the Srikona Battalion of the Assam Rifles. A total of 17 participants, including members of the local women’s organisation Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, are taking part in the initiative.
During the flag-off ceremony, the participants interacted with Assam Rifles personnel and were encouraged to act as ambassadors of their community. Officers highlighted the importance of such tours in broadening perspectives, strengthening mutual understanding and fostering a sense of national integration among youth from remote regions.
As part of the 10-day tour, the participants will visit several culturally and historically significant locations across the country, including Guwahati, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Shillong. The itinerary includes visits to heritage sites and interactions with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Officials said the National Integration Tour is a key component of the Assam Rifles’ Civic Action Programme, which seeks to build trust and cooperation with local communities while encouraging youth participation in nation-building activities.
The Assam Rifles has been regularly organising such tours across the Northeast to expose young people to the country’s rich cultural diversity and to strengthen bonds of unity and harmony.
