PM Modi Leads Shaurya Yatra at Somnath; Lights, Drones and Devotion Draw Massive Crowd

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday led the Shaurya Yatra at the historic Somnath temple, as part of the ongoing Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations, drawing a massive gathering of devotees and visitors from across the country.
The procession, held to commemorate 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the Somnath shrine, saw the Prime Minister leading the yatra along a decorated route amid tight security. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other senior state leaders accompanied him as thousands lined the streets to witness the event.
The Shaurya Yatra, symbolising valour and civilisational resilience, was marked by elaborate arrangements, including dazzling illumination of the temple complex and surrounding areas. A large-scale drone show lit up the night sky, captivating the crowd with visual depictions inspired by the temple’s history and spiritual significance.
Earlier, Modi offered prayers at the Somnath temple and participated in religious rituals. The four-day Somnath Swabhiman Parv, which began on January 8, features a series of spiritual, cultural and commemorative programmes aimed at highlighting the historical legacy of the shrine.
Despite the winter chill, devotees thronged the coastal town in large numbers, with many staying late into the night to witness the light and drone displays. Cultural performances and devotional programmes further added to the festive atmosphere.
In a message shared later, the Prime Minister described Somnath as a symbol of India’s civilisational courage and resilience, underscoring its significance in the country’s cultural history.
The celebrations at Somnath will continue over the next few days, with several religious and cultural events planned as part of the Swabhiman Parv.
