Assam has emerged as India’s fastest-growing State economy, according to the latest Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. Addressing the media during his New Year interaction, Mr. Sarma said Assam’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew by around 45 per cent between 2020-21 and 2024-25, the highest among all States, compared to the national GDP growth of about 29 per cent during the same period. He said the growth, backed by official RBI figures, reflects improved fiscal management, higher capital expenditure and increased investment in infrastructure and key sectors, adding that the State has also recorded significant rises in per capita income and revenue collection, positioning Assam as a leading growth performer in the country.
