Kanpur Horror: Retired Railway Employee Dies After Years of Confinement and Starvation; Daughter Found Alive in Critical Condition

In a chilling case of prolonged abuse and neglect, a retired railway employee was found dead in his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba district, while his daughter was rescued alive after allegedly being confined and starved for nearly five years by a servant couple employed as caretakers.
Police said the body of the elderly man was discovered in an extremely emaciated condition, described by officials as “dried and reduced to a skeletal frame,” indicating prolonged starvation and neglect. His daughter, who is reportedly mentally challenged, was found in a critical state, severely malnourished and barely conscious. She has since been admitted to hospital, where doctors say her condition remains serious but stable.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims had employed a local servant couple several years ago to assist with household work and care. Over time, the accused allegedly took complete control of the house, isolated the father and daughter, and prevented relatives or neighbours from meeting them. Family members have alleged that the couple deliberately withheld food, medical care and basic necessities, effectively holding the two captive within their own home.
Relatives grew suspicious after repeated attempts to contact the victims failed. When they finally managed to reach the house with the help of local authorities, they were shocked by the condition in which the father and daughter were found. The man had already succumbed to extreme neglect, while his daughter was rescued at the last moment.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. The servant couple has been taken into custody for questioning, and further legal action is being initiated based on the post-mortem report and medical findings. Officials said the angle of property or financial exploitation is also being probed.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals and raised serious questions about the safety of elderly and vulnerable individuals living alone. Authorities have assured strict action against those responsible and said efforts are underway to ensure proper medical care and rehabilitation for the survivor.
The post-mortem examination of the deceased is awaited, and police said more details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
