Dispur Police have busted a cybercrime racket operating in Guwahati and arrested four accused in connection with multiple online fraud cases, officials said on Wednesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Suden Basumatary of Chirang, Dina Singh of Imphal West (Manipur), Ganga Chandra Brahma of Kokrajhar, and Bablu Sarkar of Bongaigaon. The arrests were made following an investigation into a series of cyber fraud complaints registered at Dispur Police Station.
According to police, the accused were allegedly involved in various cybercrime activities, including online financial fraud. Based on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police teams carried out coordinated raids at different locations in Guwahati and took the four suspects into custody.
A case has been registered at Dispur Police Station (Case No. 954/2025) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws related to cyber offences. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the money trail, identify additional associates, and determine the full extent of the fraud.
Officials added that electronic devices, mobile phones, and other incriminating materials have been seized from the accused and are being examined by cyber experts.
Dispur Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on cybercrime and urged citizens to remain vigilant while conducting online transactions. People have been advised to report any suspected cyber fraud immediately to the police or through the national cybercrime helpline.
Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses, police said.
