Gaurav Gogoi Calls for Peaceful Dialogue to Resolve West Karbi Anglong Land & Rights Dispute

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi has urged all stakeholders to work towards a peaceful and democratic resolution of the ongoing issues in West Karbi Anglong, amid continuing tension in the district.
Expressing concern over recent incidents of violence, Gogoi appealed to people to maintain calm and avoid any actions that could further escalate the situation. He said that while protest is a democratic right, violence only deepens divisions and delays solutions. The Congress leader stressed that dialogue and mutual understanding are the only effective ways to address grievances.
Gogoi also called upon the state government and district administration to exercise restraint and ensure that law and order measures do not aggravate public resentment. He urged the authorities to engage with local communities and protest leaders through meaningful discussions to address their demands.
Highlighting the humanitarian aspect of the situation, the APCC chief said that all those injured during the unrest—whether civilians or security personnel—must be provided proper medical care without delay. He emphasised that protecting lives and restoring normalcy should be the top priority.
The unrest in West Karbi Anglong is linked to disputes over land and local rights, which have led to protests and clashes in recent days. The administration has stepped up security and imposed preventive measures to keep the situation under control.
Gogoi reiterated that long-term peace in the Sixth Schedule area can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue, respect for constitutional safeguards, and sensitivity to local concerns. His appeal comes as efforts continue to ease tensions and restore normal life in the district.
