Disaster Management Training Programme Held in Assam’s Biswanath
A training programme on disaster management was organised in Assam’s Biswanath district to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms at the local level, officials said.
The programme was conducted under the aegis of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in coordination with the Biswanath District Disaster Management Authority and the district administration. Officials, frontline workers and representatives from various departments participated in the training, which focused on improving coordination and capacity during emergencies.
During the sessions, participants were trained in key aspects of disaster management, including risk assessment, preparedness planning, emergency response, search and rescue operations, and post-disaster relief measures. Emphasis was laid on practical approaches to handling disasters such as floods, earthquakes and other natural hazards that frequently affect the region.
Resource persons highlighted the importance of community involvement, timely information dissemination and inter-departmental coordination to minimise loss of life and property during disasters. Interactive discussions and mock exercises were also held to familiarise participants with real-time response strategies.
Officials said the training programme aimed to build a skilled local workforce capable of responding swiftly and effectively during emergencies. They added that similar initiatives would be organised in other parts of the district to enhance grassroots-level disaster resilience.
Assam, owing to its geographical location, is prone to recurring natural disasters, particularly floods. Authorities said strengthening preparedness through such training programmes is crucial to ensuring effective disaster response and mitigation across vulnerable areas.
