The Indian Army demonstrated its steadfast commitment to the welfare of its Gorkha veterans during an Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Rally in Pokhara, Nepal, attended by Lt Gen Zubin A Minwalla, General Officer Commanding 33 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment, 9th Gorkha Rifles. Lt Gen Minwalla addressed the veterans and their families, emphasizing the ongoing support for the Gorkha community.

During his visit, Lt Gen Minwalla also met with senior officials from the Nepal Army, strengthening military ties and exploring new cooperation opportunities. The rally’s large turnout highlighted the strong relationship between India and Nepal, with Lt Gen Minwalla honoring the sacrifices of Gorkha soldiers, including recognizing gallantry awardees and war widows (Veer Naris).

Lt Gen Minwalla reassured veterans that the Indian Army and the Government of India are committed to enhancing welfare initiatives for Gorkha ex-servicemen and their families. The event also offered a platform for veterans to engage with Army officials, raise concerns, and receive updates on support measures.

The bond between the Indian Army and the Gorkhas is deeply rooted, with the latter having served for over 200 years with exceptional courage and loyalty. Known for their fearlessness, Gorkha soldiers have earned numerous gallantry awards, including the Param Vir Chakra, in recognition of their valor in wars and peacekeeping missions. Their battle cry, “Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali,” remains a symbol of their indomitable spirit.
