A bench, comprsing Chief Justice of India (CIJ) Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra underlined the Uttar Pradesh goverenment's vital role in ensuring that educational standards in Madrasas aligin in modern academic expecations, asking the state to relocate the students to other schools.
However, the court held that the Madrasa Act is to the extent it regulates higher education in relation to 'fazil' and 'kamil degree', conflicts with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act and that to extent it was unconstitutional.
