Section 144 of the Cr.P.C has been enforced in West Karbialong district of Assam, with the immediate effect by the District Magistrate Madhumita Bhagwati said that the prohibitory order has been imposed to imposed to maintain peace and tranquility in the district.
It has also been made to appear before me that certain anti-social elements, groups, organizations are likely to distrub public order and tranquility by getting involved in anti social, dharna causing communal and ethic distrurbance.
Also citizens will not be allowed to hold any kind of meetings or rallies or any kind of public place without taking prior permission from the District Magistrate. As per as reports, the protests comes in the wake of demand of demand of illegal settlers in Professional Grazing Reserved Land (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserved (VGR) land be evicted.
Massive protests have broken out in the West Karbialong district on Thursday. According to the police, the situtation got intigated after a group pof people were attacked by miscreants after they held a protest regarding the distribution of land pattas of BGR and PGR in certain parts of districts.
Protest broke out with the local bodies seeking action against the guilty beind the attack.
Assam DGP GP Singh stated that 17 person have been arrested in the connection to the violence.
The order also warns that any violation of the result in prosecution under the Indian Penal Code
