Prices of petrol and diesel were hiked by 80 paise per litre on Tuesday, twelve days after the assembly election results in five states. Meanwhile, the cost of domestic cooking gas has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder.
Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 96.21 per litre as against Rs 95.41 previously while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 86.67 per litre to Rs 87.47.
In Kolkata, petrol costs Rs 105.51 per litre while diesel rates increased to Rs 90.62 per litre.
The prices of petrol and diesel in Tamil Nadu's Chennai have increased to Rs 102.16 per litre and Rs 92.19 per litre, respectively.
In Mumbai, petrol is now priced at Rs 110.82 per litre while diesel is at Rs 95 per litre.
On the other hand, the price of non-subsidised cooking gas cylinders increased by Rs 50 to Rs 976. The cylinder required for commercial use only has come down by Rs 8 to Rs 2087.
Petrol-diesel prices remained unchanged for nearly three months. Experts said oil prices have not been hiked due to assembly elections in five states. Even after the Russia-Ukraine war, fuel prices in India were not increased despite the rise in crude oil in the international market. But there were fears that prices would rise. And eventually the fear was true.
