Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, claiming that even unrealistic poll promises would not help the party secure victory in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
“They can promise even the Taj Mahal, but they will still lose,” Fadnavis said, taking a dig at the opposition’s election commitments.
Expressing confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prospects, the Maharashtra Chief Minister said the party is aiming for a record mandate in Assam under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Fadnavis accused the Congress of making “impractical and exaggerated” promises, alleging that the party has lost credibility among voters due to repeated failures in governance and a disconnect with public expectations.
Highlighting the BJP’s campaign plank, he said the party is focusing on development, welfare schemes, and employment generation, which he claimed have resonated with the electorate in Assam.
The remarks come amid an intensifying political battle ahead of the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly election, where the BJP is seeking to retain power while the Congress and other opposition parties are attempting to challenge the ruling alliance.
Polling for the 126-member Assembly is scheduled in April, with results expected to be declared in May.
