In view of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the district administration in Nalbari has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
The order was issued by District Magistrate Nibedan Das Patowary as part of precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the election period.
According to the directive, assembly of five or more persons in public places, including roads, highways, and areas near government offices, has been strictly prohibited. The administration has also banned public meetings, rallies, processions, sit-in demonstrations, and protests across the district.
Use of loudspeakers and microphones for raising slogans, announcements, or organizing bandhs has been disallowed without prior permission. Authorities have further restricted the carrying of weapons, explosives, sticks, stones, or any objects that could potentially be used to disturb public peace.
In an additional measure, pillion riding on two-wheelers has been banned during the enforcement period. The order also prohibits bursting of firecrackers and the display of posters, banners, or any form of defacement on public property.
Officials stated that the restrictions have been enforced to facilitate free, fair, and peaceful elections in Assam. The administration has urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and adhere to the guidelines.
The prohibitory orders will remain in force until further notice. Similar restrictions have been imposed in several other districts across the state as part of heightened security arrangements ahead of polling.
