Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi-NCR, 128 Flights Cancelled; Schools Closed in Noida

A thick blanket of dense fog enveloped the Delhi-NCR region on Monday, causing major disruptions to air, rail and road traffic. Poor visibility during the early morning hours led to the cancellation of at least 128 flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, while several others were delayed, officials said.
According to airport authorities, flight operations were severely affected as visibility levels dropped sharply, forcing airlines to cancel services despite the availability of advanced landing systems. Passengers were advised to check flight schedules before travelling to the airport.
The dense fog also impacted rail services, with many long-distance trains running late. Road traffic across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram moved slowly, particularly on highways and major arterial roads, as commuters navigated through near-zero visibility conditions.
In response to the weather conditions, the Noida district administration ordered the closure of schools for the day as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety. Officials said the situation would be reviewed based on further weather updates.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported extremely low visibility levels in several parts of the region during the early hours, attributing the conditions to calm winds and high moisture levels. The weather agency has warned that dense to very dense fog may continue during night and early morning hours over the next few days.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution while commuting and follow traffic advisories as winter fog continues to affect daily life in the national capital region.
