“Doomsday Moment”: Assam Sends 19 Illegal Immigrants Back to Bangladesh

The Assam Police and Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a joint operation that led to the arrest of the 19 people from Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts. Following their capture, they were sent back across the India–Bangladesh border under official supervision.
Describing the operation on social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma termed it a “full doomsday moment” for alleged infiltrators and reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal immigration. “Message is crystal clear: Illegal stay in Assam? Endgame guaranteed,” he stated.
This move is part of Assam’s ongoing efforts to ensure border security and curb illegal immigration, with the state government frequently intercepting and returning suspected undocumented residents. The government had earlier approved a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950, to streamline deportation procedures.
Authorities have intensified monitoring along Assam’s border with Bangladesh, with regular patrols and coordination between police and BSF teams. While the government highlights these measures as crucial for maintaining law and order, rights groups have occasionally raised concerns about due process and verification of citizenship, especially for vulnerable communities.
The recent operation underscores Assam’s determination to enforce strict immigration laws while aiming to maintain demographic balance and border integrity.
