AASAA Flags Law and Order Crisis in Kokrajhar, Seeks Justice and Compensation

The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) has flagged what it described as a serious law and order crisis in parts of Kokrajhar district, demanding justice for affected families and adequate compensation for those who suffered losses during recent violence.
In a memorandum submitted to the state government, the students’ body alleged lapses in maintaining law and order, claiming that innocent civilians were affected during the unrest. AASAA leaders said several families were forced to flee their homes and take shelter in relief camps, while many suffered damage to houses and property.
The organisation demanded the identification and arrest of those responsible for the violence and called for strict action against the perpetrators. It also sought financial compensation for families whose homes and livelihoods were destroyed, along with comprehensive rehabilitation measures to help them return to normal life.
AASAA leaders further stressed the need for permanent security arrangements in sensitive areas to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and ensure the safety of residents. They said disruptions caused by the unrest had affected education, healthcare services and daily economic activities in the region.
Meanwhile, district authorities have said that the situation in Kokrajhar is under control, with security forces deployed in vulnerable areas to maintain peace. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy and assist families affected by the violence.
The incident has once again brought attention to the fragile law and order situation in parts of western Assam and the need for sustained measures to promote communal harmony and public safety.
