Ranji Trophy: Haryana Respond Strongly to Assam’s First-Innings Total

Haryana put up a solid reply to Assam’s first-innings total on Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match, gaining the upper hand after a disciplined batting performance.
Assam were earlier bowled out for 247 runs in their first innings after resuming the day at 187 for six. The hosts struggled to add significant runs in the morning session, with Haryana bowlers maintaining tight lines and exploiting the conditions effectively.
In response, Haryana reached 164 for 3 at stumps, trailing Assam by just 83 runs with seven wickets in hand. Opener Yuvraj Singh anchored the innings with a composed 70 not out, displaying patience and control against the Assam bowling attack.
Yuvraj shared a strong opening partnership with Ankit Kumar, who scored a brisk 50, laying a solid foundation for Haryana’s reply. After Kumar’s dismissal, Yuvraj added another valuable partnership with Dheeru Singh, ensuring Haryana maintained momentum through the innings.
For Assam, the bowlers managed to pick up three wickets but failed to apply sustained pressure as Haryana batsmen capitalised on loose deliveries.
Earlier, Assam’s innings was bolstered by a resilient half-century from Rituraj Biswas, who remained unbeaten and helped push the total past the 240-run mark. Haryana’s bowling attack was led by Anshul Kamboj, who claimed four wickets, while other bowlers provided good support.
With Haryana well placed heading into Day 3, Assam will be aiming for early breakthroughs to keep themselves in contention in what remains a closely fought contest.
