A residential house was completely gutted in a fire that broke out late Friday night in Rangapara town of Assam’s Sonitpur district, officials said. The lone occupant of the house managed to escape narrowly, averting any loss of life.
The incident occurred in the Rangapara Railway New Colony area, where the fire rapidly spread and engulfed the house within a short span of time. Local residents noticed the flames and immediately alerted the fire brigade and police.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and worked to bring the blaze under control. However, by the time the fire was doused, the house had been reduced to ashes, and most household belongings were destroyed.
According to local sources, the resident, who was inside the house when the fire broke out, managed to flee just in time. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed. Preliminary reports suggest it may have been triggered by sparks from a fire lit to keep warm amid the winter chill, though authorities said an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause.
Police have registered a case and are assessing the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked concern among residents, with officials urging people to exercise caution while using fire for heating purposes, especially during the winter season.
