DGP Harmeet Singh Presents Assam Police Sishu Mitra Awards 2025 in Guwahati

Director General of Police (DGP) Harmeet Singh, IPS, on Thursday presented the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Awards 2025 at a ceremonial programme held at the Assam Police Institute, Ulubari, recognising police officers for their exemplary work in child protection and child-friendly policing.
The awards were conferred on officers from various ranks, ranging from Inspectors General of Police to Sub-Inspectors, for their sensitive handling of cases involving children and their commitment to ensuring justice for child victims. The initiative forms part of the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Programme, which focuses on strengthening institutional capacity to deal with crimes against children in a humane, rights-based and professional manner.
Addressing the gathering, DGP Harmeet Singh underscored the importance of empathy, legal awareness and child-centric approaches in policing. He said children in conflict with law or in distress require special care and sensitivity, and commended the awardees for setting high standards in implementing child-friendly procedures at police stations and during investigations.
Apart from police personnel, special recognition awards were also presented to officials and professionals from allied departments, including child welfare authorities and support services, for their role in strengthening the child protection ecosystem in the state.
The Sishu Mitra Awards aim to encourage best practices among police personnel and reinforce Assam Police’s commitment to safeguarding children from abuse, exploitation and violence. The programme aligns with the state’s broader efforts to improve coordination between law enforcement agencies and child protection institutions, ensuring timely support and justice for vulnerable children.
