Chief Justice of India (CJI)Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud has offcially nominated Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the Supreme Court's second most senior judge, as his successor to the Union government, as CJI Chandrachud indicated that he would be stepping down his position on November 10
Justice Khanna is expected to nserve until his retirement on May 3, 2025 a tenure of about six months as CJI
This nomination follows the established convention where the retiring Chief Justice recommends the next senior-most judge for role, which is approved by the government.
