Storm Damages Around 100 Houses in Assam’s Dibrugarh District

A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain damaged around 100 houses in parts of Dibrugarh district in Assam on Thursday, affecting several families and causing significant property loss.
According to officials, the storm struck the Lezai Kalakhowa area around noon, bringing strong winds and intense rainfall that damaged houses and crops in multiple villages. The sudden weather event left many residents struggling to protect their homes and belongings.
Villages including Dighalia and Panigaon were among the worst affected by the storm. Preliminary reports suggest that several houses suffered partial damage, while some were completely destroyed due to the high-velocity winds.
Local residents said the storm caused heavy losses within a short period of time. One villager whose house was severely damaged said the strong winds destroyed homes and agricultural fields in the area. The storm also reportedly killed livestock, including a cow.
Following the incident, affected residents have demanded compensation and assistance from the government to rebuild their homes and recover from the losses.
District authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage and said necessary relief measures will be provided to the affected families. Officials added that a detailed report will be prepared once the survey is completed.
