Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, on Friday reviewed ongoing development works in Assam’s hill district of Dima Hasao during an official visit to assess the progress of key government schemes and infrastructure projects.
The minister arrived at Haflong, the district headquarters, by helicopter from Guwahati and held meetings with officials, members of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, and representatives of various civil society organisations. The discussions focused on the implementation of development programmes in sectors such as education, healthcare, drinking water supply, and road connectivity.
During his visit, Kumar inspected a government higher secondary school developed under the PM SHRI Scheme and reviewed facilities at an anganwadi centre and a health sub-centre in the district. He also assessed houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Officials briefed the minister on the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and other centrally sponsored projects being implemented in the district. While reviewing the condition of roads in remote areas, Kumar sought details from officials regarding ongoing repair and construction work. Authorities informed him that interlocking block pavements were being built in certain areas to ensure durability during heavy rainfall.
The minister also interacted with representatives of tribal organisations, including the All Dimasa Students’ Union and the Zeme Council, and discussed issues related to the district’s development and welfare of local communities.
Following the review meetings and inspections in Dima Hasao, Kumar departed for Dimapur in Nagaland as part of his visit to the Northeast. He is scheduled to attend the passing-out parade of newly inducted soldiers at the Assam Rifles Centre and School in Sukhovi.
