The much-awaited Bharalumukh flyover in Guwahati will be opened to the public on Wednesday evening, with the Assam government naming the new infrastructure after former Union Law Minister Dinesh Goswami.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Y-shaped flyover connecting Bharalumukh and Shantipur has been completed ahead of schedule and will be inaugurated around 5:30 pm. The project, built at an estimated cost of around ₹100 crore, spans about 1.2 km.
Officials said the elevated corridor is expected to significantly ease persistent traffic congestion at the busy Bharalumukh junction, one of the most crowded entry points to the city. As part of the traffic reorganisation, Railway Gate No. 9 in the area has been permanently closed, with the flyover providing an alternative route for commuters.
Announcing the naming decision, the Chief Minister said the move honours Goswami’s contributions to Assam and national politics. The late Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader is credited with playing a key role in securing a favourable 90:10 central funding pattern for the Northeast, replacing the earlier 70:30 formula.
The opening of the flyover is expected to bring major relief to daily commuters and improve traffic flow in western Guwahati.
