BJP launches ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ in Assam ahead of Assembly polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched its statewide outreach programme, Jan Ashirwad Yatra, in Assam as part of its preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The campaign was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district. The first phase of the yatra is scheduled to run from February 28 to March 9, covering several constituencies across the state.
Party leaders said the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots connect, highlight the government’s development work, and seek public feedback. Addressing party workers and supporters, Sarma said the yatra would help the BJP directly engage with people and present its performance over the past five years.
According to BJP MP Pradan Baruah, the outreach drive is designed to enable senior leaders to interact with citizens across Assam and inform them about key welfare schemes and infrastructure projects undertaken by the government.
The party expects the yatra to reach thousands of people daily through roadshows, public meetings, and community interactions. Senior state and national BJP leaders are also expected to join different phases of the campaign.
Political observers view the Jan Ashirwad Yatra as a major component of the BJP’s election strategy in Assam, aimed at mobilising cadres and building momentum ahead of the high-stakes Assembly polls.
The yatra will briefly pause during the Doul Utsav celebrations and is slated to resume in mid-March.
