A physiotherapist from Assam was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Odisha’s Cuttack district, with the bereaved family alleging that the death was a case of murder and demanding a thorough investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Dr. Rohan Kakati, a resident of Morigaon district in Assam. He had been working as a physiotherapist in Cuttack.
According to family members, Kakati had left his home on February 25 to return to Cuttack for work. However, the family received shocking news the following day that he had allegedly died after falling from the second floor of the building where he was staying.
Police recovered the body from his rented accommodation on February 26 and initiated preliminary procedures. However, the circumstances surrounding the death have raised serious doubts among the family.
Rejecting the claim of an accidental fall, the family suspects foul play and has termed the incident a “premeditated murder.” They stated that Kakati had spoken to them after reaching Cuttack and did not indicate any distress, making the sudden death highly suspicious.
The family has filed FIRs both in Odisha and at Morigaon Sadar Police Station in Assam. They have also appealed for a coordinated probe by the police of both states and sought the intervention of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure a fair investigation.
Police in Odisha have begun an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of death. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
