In a major crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police seized Yaba tablets worth nearly ₹5 crore in Hailakandi district and arrested four persons in two back-to-back operations, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
According to official sources, Hailakandi Police recovered around 1.21 lakh Yaba tablets along with 3,500 bottles of cough syrup during the operations carried out on consecutive nights. The total value of the seized contraband in the illegal market is estimated at about ₹5 crore.
The Chief Minister, sharing the development on social media, congratulated the police team for their success and reiterated the state government’s firm resolve under the Assam Against Drugs campaign to eliminate the drug menace.
Police officials said the four arrested persons are being interrogated to trace the wider drug network and supply chain. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Assam Police have intensified anti-narcotics drives across the state in recent years, leading to multiple high-value seizures and arrests as part of the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.
