A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by seven men and forced to transfer ₹10,000 in a shocking incident reported from Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district, police said.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on the night of February 19 near the Ramnagar bypass when the woman was travelling with her boyfriend. A group of men reportedly arrived in an SUV, intercepted the couple and threatened them with a sharp weapon.
Police said the accused allegedly assaulted the boyfriend and then sexually assaulted the woman. In her FIR, the survivor stated that seven men raped her one after another. The attackers also allegedly coerced her into transferring ₹10,000 online before fleeing the spot.
Following the complaint, Cachar Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that one suspect has been arrested so far, while raids are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.
Police sources said the survivor has been medically examined and has identified some of the alleged perpetrators. Security has been stepped up in the area, and investigators are examining digital transaction details and CCTV footage to trace the suspects.
The incident has sparked concern locally, with demands for swift action against those involved. Police said further investigation is in progress.
