Assam is undergoing a major connectivity transformation as a series of landmark bridge projects across the Brahmaputra and its tributaries improve mobility, trade and regional integration in the state. Led by the government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the initiative focuses on linking the north and south banks that historically depended on ferries and long detours. Operational structures such as the Bhupen Hazarika Setu and the Bogibeel Bridge have already reshaped travel patterns, while the newly inaugurated six-lane Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu is expected to ease congestion in the Guwahati region. Major projects in the pipeline include the 19.3-km Dhubri–Phulbari Bridge and the proposed Bhuragaon–Kaupati Bridge, along with plans for a second Saraighat Bridge, all of which are expected to boost economic activity, improve access to remote areas and strengthen strategic connectivity in the Northeast.
