Pakistan Airstrikes in Afghanistan Leave Dozens Dead or Injured
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated sharply after Pakistan carried out cross-border airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan, reportedly killing and injuring dozens of people. Afghan authorities said the strikes hit civilian areas, including homes and a madrassa in Paktika province, and condemned the action as a violation of the country’s sovereignty. Pakistan, however, maintained that the operation targeted hideouts of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), blaming the group for a recent surge in deadly attacks inside its territory. Rescue efforts were underway at the affected sites amid fears that women and children were among the casualties. The incident has further strained relations between Islamabad and the Taliban-led Afghan government, which denies allowing militants to operate from its soil.
