Bangladesh to Open New Visa Centre in Silchar as Services Resume for Indians

Bangladesh has announced plans to open a new visa application centre in Silchar, Assam, even as Dhaka resumes visa services for Indian citizens after a recent suspension, in a move seen as part of efforts to ease bilateral tensions.
The decision comes under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, with Bangladesh authorities restoring the issuance of various visa categories, including tourist and medical visas for Indian nationals. Officials indicated that the resumption is aimed at normalising people-to-people movement and strengthening cross-border engagement.
The proposed Silchar visa centre is expected to benefit applicants from Assam’s Barak Valley and neighbouring northeastern states by reducing the need to travel to distant cities for Bangladesh visa services. The move is also likely to boost medical travel, trade visits and family exchanges between the two countries.
Visa processing for Indians had remained limited for months following diplomatic strains and security-related concerns. With services now being gradually restored, officials on both sides have expressed hope that the step will contribute to improved India–Bangladesh relations and smoother mobility for travellers.
Further details regarding the operational timeline of the Silchar visa centre are expected to be announced in due course.
