Bodo intellectuals demand action-backlog in ST vacancies must be cleared now, urge Centre.

Bodo intellectuals have urged the Central government to immediately fill vacant posts reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, warning that prolonged delays are undermining constitutional safeguards meant for tribal communities.
At a recent meeting, representatives of Bodo organisations and prominent intellectuals expressed concern that a significant number of ST-reserved vacancies in Central government departments and public sector units remain unfilled. They argued that this backlog is depriving eligible tribal youths—particularly from the Bodo community in Assam—of rightful employment opportunities.
The speakers emphasised that reservation policies were introduced to ensure equitable representation of historically marginalised groups in government services. Failure to implement these provisions in letter and spirit, they said, defeats the purpose of affirmative action and widens socio-economic disparities.
The delegation called on the Centre to conduct a comprehensive review of reserved vacancies, clear the backlog through special recruitment drives, and ensure strict monitoring so that such lapses do not recur. They also sought greater transparency in recruitment data related to ST quotas.
Bodo intellectuals further warned that continued inaction could fuel resentment among educated tribal youths who are already facing limited employment prospects. They appealed to both the Central and Assam governments to coordinate and address the issue on priority.
No immediate response from the Central government was reported at the time of the meeting.
