Assam Civil Services Exam Results Rectified After Quota Discrepancy, Minister Tells Assembly

The Assam government on Tuesday said the results of the Assam Civil Services examination were rectified after a discrepancy was detected in the implementation of reservation norms, with the minister concerned assuring the Assembly that the recruitment process itself remained transparent.
Replying to questions in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Parliamentary Affairs and Education Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the error occurred at the stage of result preparation and not during the conduct of the examination by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
According to the minister, the final results of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) were initially published but later withdrawn after it was found that reservation provisions for specific communities under the OBC/MOBC category had not been correctly applied. The discrepancy particularly related to the allocation of posts reserved for the Moran and Motok communities, as notified in the original advertisement and subsequent government orders.
Following complaints from candidates and community organisations, the APSC reviewed the matter and issued a revised merit list after correcting the quota allocation. Patowary said the rectification was carried out strictly in accordance with existing reservation rules to ensure that no eligible candidate was deprived of their due entitlement.
“The examination was conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The issue was limited to an inadvertent error in applying the reservation policy while preparing the result, which was promptly corrected,” the minister told the House.
The withdrawal and republication of the results had triggered anxiety among aspirants and led to protests in parts of the state. Opposition members raised concerns over the handling of the process, seeking assurances that such lapses would not be repeated.
Responding to the concerns, the government said necessary instructions have been issued to the APSC to strengthen internal checks while preparing results in future recruitments. The revised results have since been uploaded on the commission’s official website, bringing clarity to the selection process.
The Assam Civil Services examination is one of the state’s most competitive recruitment processes, conducted to select officers for the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and other allied services.
