The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday released the final electoral roll for Assam following the Special Revision (SR) of the voter list for 2026, marking a crucial step ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. The final roll was published after the completion of the claims and objections process and disposal of all applications submitted during the revision exercise.
The Special Revision was carried out through a house-to-house verification process by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), aimed at ensuring accuracy in the voter database. The exercise focused on the inclusion of eligible voters, correction of errors, and removal of deceased, shifted, or duplicate entries. The qualifying date for inclusion in the electoral roll was January 1, 2026.
According to officials, the draft roll published earlier had around 2.52 crore electors, and the final list reflects updates made after scrutiny of claims and objections received till January 22. The ECI stated that the SR was conducted to strengthen electoral integrity and improve voter participation by maintaining a clean and error-free roll.
The revision process, however, witnessed political and civil society scrutiny, with some opposition parties and organisations raising concerns over alleged irregularities and the filing of objections under Form-7. The ECI has maintained that all applications were examined strictly as per due process and legal provisions, and no eligible voter was excluded without verification.
With the final roll now published, voters in Assam can check their names and details on the official Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam websites using their EPIC number or personal details. Election authorities have advised citizens to verify their entries at the earliest to avoid inconvenience during polling.
The publication of the final SR voter list is seen as a significant administrative milestone as Assam moves closer to the 2026 Assembly elections, with the ECI reiterating its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in the state.
