Assam’s GDP to Touch ₹10 Lakh Crore by 2027: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state’s economy is on track to reach a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of ₹10 lakh crore by 2027, citing rapid growth and sustained reforms across sectors.
Addressing the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh, Sarma said Assam is currently recording an annual growth rate of 13–15 per cent, higher than the national average, as per data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He described the projected GDP milestone as a historic achievement that would mark Assam’s transition into a stronger and more resilient economy.
The Chief Minister attributed the growth to focused governance, investment-friendly policies and improved infrastructure. He said Assam’s participation at international platforms such as the World Economic Forum reflects rising investor confidence and the state’s growing global engagement.
Reviewing the government’s performance, Sarma highlighted progress in employment generation, stating that more than 1.56 lakh youths have secured jobs through transparent recruitment processes during the current tenure. He also pointed to major advances in healthcare, education and social welfare as contributors to overall economic momentum.
On peace and stability, the Chief Minister said agreements such as the Bodo Peace Accord and the Karbi peace agreement have helped create a conducive environment for development by ensuring long-term stability in previously disturbed regions.
Sarma further said the state is strengthening its healthcare infrastructure, including plans to introduce advanced cancer treatment facilities, and expanding connectivity and industrial capacity to support future growth.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that with continued reforms and public participation, Assam would achieve the ₹10 lakh crore GDP target by 2027, improving livelihoods and economic opportunities across the state.
