Delhi Café Murder: Accused Posts Video Confession, Claims Killing Followed Past Altercation

A video purportedly showing the accused in the fatal shooting at a café in northeast Delhi has surfaced on social media, in which the man claims he killed the victim following a personal dispute, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred late on January 23 outside a café in the Maujpur area of northeast Delhi, where a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
Hours after the shooting, the accused allegedly uploaded a video on social media, claiming responsibility for the murder. In the video, he stated that the killing was prompted by a past incident in which the victim had allegedly slapped him several months ago. “He had slapped me, so I killed him,” the accused said in the clip, while asserting that no other family members or associates were involved.
Police officials said the video is being examined as part of the investigation. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, and multiple police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused.
However, the victim’s family has disputed the accused’s claims, alleging that the murder may have stemmed from a financial dispute, including an unpaid loan. They have demanded a thorough probe into the circumstances leading up to the killing.
CCTV footage from the café and nearby areas is being analysed, and forensic teams have collected evidence from the crime scene. Police said the motive behind the murder is still under investigation and no conclusions have been drawn at this stage.
Authorities have appealed to the public not to circulate unverified content related to the case as the investigation continues.
