Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has fled the country and taken refugee in India. The Government of India is also concerned about the latest situation in Bangladesh. The Center called an all-party meeting on Tuesday morning.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said the situation in Bangladesh is not worrying enough to require the relocation of 12,000-13,000 Indians in the violence-hit country. Addressing an all-party meeting in Parliament, Jaishankar said the government was closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government as more than 300 people were killed in anti-government protests.
The meeting was attended by all NDA allies and most of the opposition parties including Leaders of Opposition in both the Houses Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge
Jaishankar added that the government wants to give Hasina some
time to decide her future plans. Speaking at the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said the government should have a medium and long-term strategy and is ready to rule Bangladesh by an interim government until elections are held.
Student protesters are demanding Nobel Laurete Muhammad Yunus to become the government's chief adviser.
After the meeting, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said what happened in Bangladesh would also affect India. Bangladesh is our border state. If there is anarchy in Bangladesh, it will not be good for India. The government should consider how to bring back the Indians there and how to secure the border.”
