A Senior Citizen Walking Competition was organised in Demow to promote physical fitness and active lifestyles among the elderly, drawing enthusiastic participation from senior citizens across the area.
The event was held at the Raichai Rural Stadium and was organised by the Demow Co-District Administration in collaboration with the Assam Senior Citizen Sanmillan, Demow Branch, as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
Participants competed in different age categories for men and women. In the men’s 60 years and above (1,200 metres) category, Madhab Jyoti Deori secured first place, while Niranjan Konwar and Noren Sonowal jointly finished second, and Phatik Konwar placed third. In the 70 years and above (800 metres) category, Prodip Chandra Borah won the event, followed by Phani Dhar Gogoi and Siddheswar Dehingia.
In the women’s 60 years and above (800 metres) category, Parul Borah clinched first place, while Golapi Konwar and Guneswari Phukan finished second and third respectively.
Officials said the initiative aimed to encourage healthy living and social engagement among senior citizens. Winners will be felicitated by the district administration at a later date.
The event was widely appreciated for fostering community spirit and highlighting the importance of fitness among the elderly.
