Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Apulia, Italy, to attend the G-7 summit. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral meetings with several world-class leaders. Modi will attend the
 G-7 summit on Friday at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Geogria Meloni. Prime Minister Modi may hold bilateral meetings with Franch President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before leaving for Borgo Egnazia for the G7 summit.


The Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. However, Modi is unlikely to hold any meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. No bilateral meetings are also scheduled with US President Joe Biden. However, the two leaders may meet informally.

Italy is an important partner in the discussions on many global issues, including the International Solar Alliance led by India. Trade between the two countries is also going well. In 2022-23, the two countries had a trade of $15 billion. India's exports stood at $8.69 billion. Currently, Italy is India's fourth largest trading partner in Europe. During Prime Minister Modi's visit, the two countries may discuss issues such as further enhancing trade and strengthening international alliances.

India and Italy have very good relations. In 2023, the two countries celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The two countries also have historically good relations. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Italy in October 2021 for the G-20 Summit. The two countries are working together in the Asia Pacific areas including defence, energy, science and technology. There have been several visits by top officials and ministers from both countries in recent years.
