The Allahabad High Court ruled that "Kanyadaan" is not necessary for solemnisation of a marriage under Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 and only 'saptapadi' is an essential ceremony.
A High Court bench of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi, was hearing a hearing a revision petition filed by Ashutosh Yadav, who was challenging an order by a trial court who had stated that his marriage was under the Act mandated ' kanyadaan' ceremony was not necessary for marriage.
Yadav who was contesting a criminal case filed by in his laws and he maintained before the trail court that his marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act a 'kanyadaan' ceremony, which has not been performed.
