Assam Goverenment extended  the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act,  1958 in four districts for another six months from April 1.

 

The “Disturbed Area” tag under the AFSPA has been extended in areas  covering Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo and Sibsagar districts.

 

 

Assam Police submitted a report to the government, asserting that there was an improvement asserting law and order situation in the state, barring  one militant organisation being active in four districts.

 

AFSPA was imposed in Assam for the first time ever on November  1990 and extended ever six months by tye state government.

 

 

The Act was withdrawn on  April 1, 2022 from the entire state of  Assam barring nine districts and sub division of Cachar districts.

 

The Act was was withdrawn on April 1, 2023  from Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district.

 

The Act was withdrawn on October 1, 2023  from Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbialong, and Dima Hasao district.
