Assam government's 'Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Award' to Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

The Assam government will honour Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu with the award to popular Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Award for his 'National Unity National Contribution'.

During his proposed visit to Assam, he decided to confer the award on the Vice President through a function on October 3 at a state cabinet meeting on Friday.

The award was named after Gopinath Bordoloi Award, the first chief minister of Assam after independence and freedom fighter.

The award will have Rs 5 lakh in cash and a brochure.

Barad, known as the builder of modern Assam, was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1999 for his contribution to the society.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma Decided to make the award biannual at a cabinet meeting on Friday.
