Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will return to power in Assam with its “largest ever mandate” in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a youth convention organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Guwahati, Shah said the strong participation of young people reflects growing support for the BJP across the state. He urged voters to give the party another term, asserting that Assam has witnessed significant development under BJP rule.
Shah credited the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for ensuring stability, peace, and progress in the state. He contrasted the current administration’s performance with that of previous governments, alleging that Assam had suffered from violence and underdevelopment in the past.
Targeting the Indian National Congress, Shah accused it of failing to protect the interests of the people and allowing illegal infiltration. He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to identifying and removing “infiltrators” from electoral rolls and taking strict action against illegal immigration.
“The Congress gave shelter to infiltrators, but the BJP government is determined to identify each one and drive them out,” Shah said.
The remarks come as Assam prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections, where the BJP is aiming to secure a third consecutive term in the 126-member House.
Political observers view Shah’s statement as part of the BJP’s broader campaign strategy to mobilise youth voters and consolidate its support base ahead of the polls.
